Uniterra is a volunteer cooperation and international development program that strengthens organizations and networks by pooling expertise and knowledge. Jointly implemented by WUSC and CECI, the Uniterra Program contributes to improving the socio-economic conditions of local communities in 14 countries in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and Asia. Uniterra supports the development of inclusive market systems in order to address the root causes of market failure and to facilitate systemic changes. To do so, Uniterra works in specific product and service sub-sectors to in order to enable 5.6 million women and youth from poor and marginalized communities in 14 countries to improve their economic and social well-being. Uniterra prioritizes local ownership of results through working in partnership with strategically placed local partners to improve the quality and relevance of services, and facilitate access to economic opportunities for women and youth.
NVTI is an agency set up by the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MoELR). It currently runs 34 vocational training institutes, mainly in urban areas, in all ten regions of Ghana. The NVTI additionally sets the curricula used by most of the vocational training providers in Ghana.
NVTI was established in order to plan effective development and utilization of human resource in accordance with the expected socio-economic development of the country in the area of vocational training.
Its mission is to provide demand-driven employable skills and enhance the income generating capacities of basic and secondary school leavers, and such other persons through Competency-Based Apprenticeship, Master Craftsmanship, Testing and Career Development.
In the new Uniterra program, NVTI will be responsible for delivering market-relevant and nationally recognized construction trade training for youth and women. It therefore requires a highly skilled professional to support the capacity assessment of the institution in delivering quality, relevant and affordable skills for employment training to young people. The volunteer will be expected to determine the level of both technical and human resource capacity of NVTI in delivering its mandate particularly as far as the outcomes of Uniterra is concerned
Review current capacity of the NVTI to head office and its regional offices
Determine the human resource capacity and needs of the institution
Make recommendations on the road map/strategies in meeting Uniterra outcomes
Promote the equal participation and representation of women and men in all programme activities.
University degree in Human Resource or relevant degree
Experience in organizational development an asset
Experience working with youth
Experience in training and doing workshops
Strong communication and organizational skills
Easiness to adapt and respect multicultural environment
Great sense of humor and tact
